Sussex Street Community Law Service offers a range of legal advice and advocacy services to people on a low income.  Services include

  • Family Law - Provision of family law services in the areas of divorce and separation, care and protection of children, domestic violence, restraining orders, property settlement, childrens issues and parental rights and responsibilities and family law workshops.
  • Civil Law - Community legal services dealing with matters relation to neighbourhood disputes, complaints against police, consumer credit and protection, guardianship and administration, negilgence, motor vehicle injury and criminal injuries compensation.
  • Minor Criminal Law - Confidentional advice on minor matters including advice on minor (summary) criminal charges, traffic offences and pleas in mitigation.
  • Night Legal Service - Twenty minute advice sessions are provided by volunteer solicitors in civil and family law matters on Monday and Thursday evenings between 6 and 8 pm.  Appointments are essential and can be arranged by calling the front desk on 9470 2676.
  • Disability Discrimination - Statewide program providing information and legal represetnation for people with disabilities, their families or carers who experience discrimination under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
  • Financial Counselling - Provision of financial counselling services to low income earners and individuals experiencing financial difficulties through bankruptcy, debt negotiation with creditors, development of budgeting skills and dealing with consumer protection issues including credit and debt.
  • Welfare Rights - Specialist service for people esperienceing income support difficulties through the social security system.  The Welfare Rights Advocate assists with submissions and appeals to the Social Security Appeals Tribunal adn Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
  • Tenancy Advocacy - This service assists private and public housing tenants to deal with tenancy issues and disputes and provides advocacy services in relation to Homeswest tenancy applications and appeals.
  • Individual Disability Advocacy Service - This service is available in the in rural and regional WA in the Midwest, Goldfields and Great Southern regions with special assistance to people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background.
  • Emergency Relief - Provision of financial assistance to people experiencing financial difficulities.

These services are available in East Victoria Park, Belmont and Midland.
